Reason for nomination

The DigiBima Agent App is an innovative digital insurance platform designed to transform livestock insurance for smallholder farmers through the integration of mobile technology, biometrics, and data-driven processes. Developed as part of ACRE Africa’s initiative to expand agricultural insurance, the application empowers agents and farmers to seamlessly access, purchase, and manage insurance products in rural and underserved markets. A defining feature of the application is its use of cow muzzle biometric identification technology, which leverages the unique patterns of a cow’s nose similar to human fingerprints to create a secure and tamper-proof identity for each insured animal. This biometric approach addresses one of the most critical challenges in livestock insurance: accurate animal identification during underwriting and claims processing. Scientific studies confirm that cattle muzzle patterns are unique and can be reliably used for identification, significantly reducing fraud and improving claim authenticity. Through the app, agents can digitally onboard farmers, register livestock, and capture biometric data alongside images and farm details. This ensures that every insured animal has a verifiable digital identity stored securely within the system. During claims, the same biometric verification process is used to confirm the insured animal, drastically simplifying and accelerating claims settlement while enhancing trust among stakeholders.

The application is designed with simplicity and accessibility in mind, allowing field agents and farmers with limited digital literacy to easily interact with the system. Its offline capabilities ensure uninterrupted operations in remote areas, with automatic synchronization once connectivity is restored.

By combining biometric innovation, mobile accessibility, and insurance digitization, DigiBima is redefining livestock insurance by:

-Eliminating identity fraud and disputes in claims

-Increasing efficiency and transparency across the insurance value chain

-Expanding insurance access to previously underserved rural communities

Overall, DigiBima represents a breakthrough in InsurTech by bridging the gap between advanced technology and practical, real-world agricultural needs making livestock insurance more reliable, scalable, and inclusive.
