In 2014, Africa Re, the largest African indigenous reinsurance company decided to celebrate the leaders, companies and innovations of the continental insurance industry.

The first awards took place during the 42nd African Insurance Organisation (AIO) conference in Tunis on 25 May 2015, with over 800 guests.

According to Mr. Corneille Karekezi, the Group Managing Director and CEO of Africa Re “The key objective of the African Insurance Awards is to promote the development of insurance in Africa by honouring distinguished companies and leaders of insurance companies that have raised exceptional standards of competence and achievement and demonstrated unprecedented level of insurance industry leadership.”

Therefore the aim of the African Insurance Awards is to:

• Reward and celebrate leaders, best performers and achievers in the Africa insurance industry;

• Identify and stimulate distinctive innovations in the insurance sector in Africa;

• Encourage sustainable growth in terms of insurance premium combined with business profitability in the sector; and

• Provide added value by sharing progress and best practices in the development of insurance in Africa.

The following are the winners of the 2015 African Insurance Awards;

CEO of the Year 2015 – Mr. Patrick Tumbo, CEO of Jubilee Ins. Co. of Kenya Ltd

Insurance Company of the Year – MISR Insurance Company of Egypt

Innovation of the Year – Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc. of Nigeria
